About This Festival
Gaura Purnima marks the auspicious appearance of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu - the golden gateway to the ocean of Krishna-prema (love of God). Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared on February 18, 1486 in Navadvipa, Bengal, during a lunar eclipse when everyone was chanting the holy names.
Mahaprabhu's mission was to deliver the fallen souls of Kali-yuga through the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.
