About This Festival
Radhashtami celebrates the appearance of Srimati Radharani, the Supreme Goddess, the embodiment of mahabhava (highest love), and the eternal beloved of Lord Sri Krishna. She appeared fifteen days after Krishna's appearance, on Ashtami (eighth day) of the bright fortnight of Bhadrapada month.
Radharani appeared in Barsana to King Vrishabhanu and Queen Kirtida. She is the personification of devotion and the internal pleasure potency (hladini shakti) of the Supreme Lord.

The Sacred Story
King Vrishabhanu found baby Radharani on a lotus flower in Rawal Kund. Her eyes remained closed from birth. When baby Krishna came to visit, She opened Her eyes for the first time.
